CodeRED: Moultrie County’s Emergency Alert System
Discover one of the most effective ways to stay informed of severe weather.
What Is CodeRED?
CodeRED is a free, secure emergency alert system. The Moultrie County Emergency Services Disaster Agency (ESDA) coordinates the system. It enables residents and businesses to receive address-specific alerts by phone call, text message, or email. Whichever you choose.
This system ensures that when dangerous weather or local emergencies occur, people are warned quickly and clearly based on the exact physical location of their property.
Why Do You Need an Early Warning System?
Spring has arrived in Central Illinois, and we’ve already experienced it. Tornadoes, high winds, and flash flooding can develop quickly, leaving little time to react. That’s why an early emergency warning system is a vital service for residents and businesses.
CodeRED is especially effective for individuals residing in areas where local weather sirens and other alerting systems cannot be heard.
What Sets CodeRED Apart from Other Systems?
Spring weather in Illinois is unpredictable and can change rapidly. Traditional warnings, such as TV, radio, or sirens, may not reach everyone in time. With CodeRED:
- You get real-time alerts specific to your home or business.
- Notifications are provided 24/7 directly to you for the alerts you choose to receive.
- You can stay informed, even when traveling or away from home.
- You receive only the alerts relevant to your address, not broad regional notices.
CodeRED delivers timely warnings that can help save lives. It will do so regardless of whether you use a landline or a cell phone.
Who Should Sign Up?
ESDA encourages everyone who lives, works, or owns property in Moultrie County to sign up. This includes:
- Residents and businesses.
- People with unlisted phone numbers.
- Anyone who has moved or changed phone numbers in the last year.
- Individuals who use a cell phone or VoIP service as their primary number.
Even if you believe you’re already in the system, it’s a good idea to routinely check and update your location and alert preferences.
